Book-Cricket in Times Square by George Selden 1961

Selling vintage book, The Cricket in Times Square by George Selden and drawings by Garth Williams. Copyright 1960, and fourth printing 1961.

Story of a cricket, named Chester from Connecticut spends only one summer in NYcity where he is transported in a picnic basket and never forgets the adventures he has there. It is a strange world we meet: noisy, garish, and often hard-hearted, to be sure; but it takes on an odd beauty when seen through the eyes of the animals. A rare and wonderful reading experience for young and old alike. Garth Williams does the drawings that are the perfect complement to Mr. Selden's text, and is one of the best loved illustrators of children's books of our time. It was he who gave E.B. Whites' characters in Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little their now familiar faces.

Hardbound book with original paper cover. Paper cover is pretty worn and torn. Book spine is loose. Pages are still intact. Book has child's name written on cover page, Onondaga Free Library is stamped on Contents page, rest of the book is free from other marks. Last cover page is wrinkled from water, no stains and it looks like that was the page where the library card envelope used to be.
