MacKenzie-Childs Vintage Glass small Hurricane candle holder/vase 1983 logo
This beautiful 6″ high small hurricane candle holder/vase is a piece of history from the MacKenzie-Childs era when Victoria and Richard MacKenzie-Childs owned and designed at the factory in Aurora up until 2001. Currently, this pattern and shape is not in production and has been retired for some time, so this piece is more collectible.
MacKenzie-Childs factory sits upon the Cayuga Lake, one of the Finger Lakes in Upstate NY that spans 50 miles long. The glassware, when Victoria & Richard were owners and the only designers prior to 2001, did all the artwork onsite, then the actual painting of the glass was done in Ohio by trained M-C artists in factories with glass kilns. After painting and firing several times (the glass had to be fired many times for the gold and platinum were fired at a different temperature than the glass paints, and the decals etc) the product would be shipped back to the Aurora factory for final completion, ribbons, brass dots, etc. The completed product would then be packed and shipped out to retailers from Aurora.
This Hurricane has been hand painted with gold stripes, garland of roses and platinum dots. The foot is hand painted in a marble technique.
Victoria & Richard designed glass to complement the pottery dishes they loved dearly. Their fanciful, witty and charming patterns flowed easily onto glass and it came about and took off just when the fire broke out at the Aurora factory in the late 90’s. This Hurricane is a wonderful complement to the MacLachlan series of dishes as well as their other patterns. Also makes nice vase, or fill with licorice whips for the holidays for fun.
Logo on bottom stamped 1983 but from the mid ’90’s when made. Hand wash, sticker is still on the bottom. Pre-owned excellent condition size
ALL of my M-C items unless stated otherwise, were hand-painted and made from the period when Victoria and Richard were owners and worked at the factory.
