Description
This upcycled tuxedo style, cut away jacket named “Aegean” for all the shades of blue like the Aegean Sea; has been reconstructed using Thrift store finds of Large Men’s plaid shirt that has a little poly filling and the bottom panel made from upholstery material that was on a roll found at a sale. I also used the sleeve from another thrift jacket find for the elbow patches and for the cuffs. This jacket buttons down the front with the original buttons that the shirt had. The peplum was made and sewn to the cut off shirt on top. There are lots of applique pieces on the front top, taken from the upholstery fabric on the bottom. The edges of most of the appliques were left raw to fray a bit which I like. The back of the jacket has a needlepoint landscape scene that was a thrift store find and cut to a shape to fit the back and appliqued on. There is a denim pocket part at the top of the back, plus denim ties sewn with silver buttons at the waist. A collar off of another thrift store shirt is appliqued on the back along with salesman samples of upholstery fabrics cut in triangles. Silver buttons sewn on front and back on design. See video for how the jacket fits. The bottom half does flare out a bit, due to the stiffness of the upholstery fabric, but I like how it flares out and makes a statement! The top as mentioned was a Men’s LT, but see the measurements below to compare with something you have that fits well. The colors of the jacket are shades of blue, gold, white & green. There are 8 silver metal buttons, 2 on front, 1 on each cuff, and 2 on tieback, and 2 on back squares. Due to the upholstery fabrics I recommend Spot clean or dry clean only
Fabrics: The shirt itop part is 100% acrylic, the lining is 100%nylon with 100%poly fill, the gray strip triangles are 65% Rayon and 35% poly.
NOTE: Since this garment is made from second hand items, expect some minor wear. This might include gently faded fabric, minor pilling, or small areas where the color has become uneven. Some fraying of fabrics was done purposefully for design, and will only fray up to the point where the stitching meets. The beauty of wearing refashioned clothing from secondhand items is to tell the world that you care about the environment. Each garment is a one of a kind, thus the name, Born Again Original, taking that discarded item and giving it new life in a new unique way. I am not a professional seamstress, so my inside seams are not french seams and stitching is most likely crooked. This, I feel is all part of the imperfect “hand” in the process. I make each piece as if I were going to wear it myself, thus difficult at times to see them go. But, it heartens me knowing that they are sent out with a blessing and maybe I may run into it again one day!
This is a NON RETURNABLE ITEM! Please take note of the measurements below. Please measure a favorite outfit (not while on yourself) laid out on a flat surface, and compare the measurements I have provided. Also take into consideration the fabrics…knits/acrylic/poly give a little, cottons do not. If you have any questions about this garment please contact me prior to purchasing. I will gladly send you more photos. The current photos were taken inside under natural light and also under recessed lighting. From a non-smoking home.
